This week's 20 questions

Posted: Tuesday, October 02, 2007 7:20 PM

After digesting a frenetic opening month of the college football season, I’m here to pose this week’s 20 questions:

Dan Hawkins has gone on record saying that he isn’t “The Swami,” but don’t you think somebody within the Colorado athletic department has some mystic powers? How else can you explain the Buffs hanging the homecoming tag on that game against Oklahoma? Furthermore, is there some kind of voodoo going on with Hawkins, Chris Peterson and all things “Boise” when it comes to Bob Stoops and the Sooners?

After catching just eight passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns, do you think that Texas Tech redshirt freshman wide receiver Michael Crabtree will be able to shake off his worst game of the season and bounce back Saturday versus Iowa State?

Speaking of redshirt freshmen, who’s been more impressive on the defensive side than Florida Atlantic cornerback Tavious Polo, who not only leads the nation with seven interceptions but also snapped Andre’ Woodson’s pick-less streak at 325 attempts?

Who would have thought that either Texas or Oklahoma would lose its first to Big 12 games?

Is Charlie Weis willing to use the word “rebuilding” yet? How amazing is it that UCLA’s Karl Dorrell would suffer more from a loss on Saturday at the Rose Bowl than Weis, who would drop to 0-6?

Although probably too painful for Fighting Irish fans to think about, isn’t it interesting to consider how Arrelious “Rejus” Benn would have impacted Notre Dame this season if Weis didn’t lose out to Ron Zook in that key recruiting battle?

Which program has exhibited worse fashion sense this season, mustard-mania Minnesota or overly-orange Syracuse?

After Cal’s DeSean Jackson racked up 161 receiving yards and USC backed up with 161 penalty yards to steal all the attention in the Pac-10 on Saturday, did anybody stay up late to notice that Willie Tuitama completed 22-of-31 for 346 yards and five touchdowns to lead Arizona past Washington State?

Is it too early to start discussing candidates for the gig at Pitt?

Do you think Oregon State’s Gerard Lawson will be returning kickoffs on Saturday? Is it out of line to give him a fourth chance to get it right?

Unless they meet up in the Big 12 Championship Game, isn’t a shame that catch-phrase geniuses Mike Gundy and Dan Hawkins won’t be pitted against each other this season? Speaking of those guys and the entrepreneurship that they have inspired on their campuses, would you rather have an “I’m a man … I’m 40” or an “It ain’t intramurals, brother” t-shirt?

Is it a good sign or a bad sign for Hawaii that its defense nearly accounted for as many touchdowns as Colt Brennan’s arm in the Warriors’ 48-20 victory at Idaho?

Let me get this straight, Clemson has two tailbacks that would start for 100 teams in the country, but they have to share a placekicker with the soccer team? And he went 1-for-5 on field goals and scored Clemson’s only points in the 13-3 loss at Georgia Tech? After also allowing a punt to be blocked and fumbling away a kickoff return, do you get the feeling that Tommy Bowden should focus a little more time and attention on special teams?

john,

wassup, anyway good point about colt, but he did look like he was trying to force the issue on three of those passes.  i think lissing one game made him feel he had to make up for it and pushed it.  1 was a bad tip.  anyway hope all is well.
