20 questions, no upsets

Posted: Monday, October 29, 2007 5:54 AM

While wondering if the teams from the Boston area are about to take over the world, I’m here to pose this week’s 20 questions:

If it came down to undefeated Boston College and one-loss LSU vying for the final spot in the BCS title game, which team would you want?

Saturday’s give-and-go goal by Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez was an absolute thing of beauty, but how does that beat out Trinity University’s 15-lateral touchdown for SportsCenter’s No. 1 play of the day?

Who’s worse at defending the desperation lateral-at-all-costs play, Millsaps College or Stanford University? With the Majors (that’s Millsaps’ nickname) needing all the help they could get, where was the band?

After their big victory over Virginia, have you notice that Tom O’Brien’s Wolfpack are only five games behind the Eagles he left behind?

Can’t you see shenanigans like the one Georgia pulled off after its first touchdown against Florida really getting out of control? Will the NCAA have to come up with a new “Mark Richt Rule” before next season?

Wouldn’t it be something if Dennis Dixon’s big games were actually televised on something other than regional cable TV?

Are you ready for 10 -- or even 11 -- SEC teams to be going bowling?

Has there ever been a more talented team without a household name at running back than Florida? What would Urban Meyer give to have had USC transfer Emmanuel Moody instantly eligible? And wouldn’t Pete Carroll like to have him back?

Wow, hasn’t Sylvester Croom leaped off the hot seat in style?

Has Jamaal Charles stopped running yet? How many more decades will pass before a Nebraska defense allows a player to explode for 216 rushing yards and three touchdowns in a single quarter again?

Isn’t Jerry Glanville supposed to be known for his defensive prowess? Does PGE Park now qualify as another kind of “House of Pain” after Glanville’s Portland State Vikings blew a 7-3 second quarter lead in a 73-68 loss to Weber State?

With their team totally incapable of beating the bad teams on their schedule, are UCLA fans overjoyed that the Bruins close the season against non-lightweights Arizona State, Oregon and USC?

What happened to all the upsets this past Saturday? Next time, will the powers that be please tell the guy who does “Predictions 101” when they’re about to flip the switch and suddenly turn off the fresh supply of upsets?

When the winner of the ASU/Oregon game passes LSU, who is playing Tulane or somebody like that, in the BCS standings next week, the BC/LSU question will be a moot point.
John,

Looks like sour grapes after your BCS-bound gators got whipped in Jacksonville.  Florida has been guilty of plenty of "shenanigans" of their own over the years.
1: BC a 0 loss is more desirable to me.
2: Because noe has ever heard of the two teams involved in that play.
3: Stanford because they had to resort to rushing the field rather then play it out.
4: Hindsight is 20:20.
5: Yes I can and yes I do.
6: I'm from the midwest... are there are other teams in the Pac-10 other then USC?
7: sure the SEC can have the lower tier bowl games.
8: I thought Florida did have a big name RB... Tim Tebow anyone?
9: He can bring his team to play in the big games.  He should keep his job if they make a bowl.
10: That man is a credit to his team... or maybe the defense he ran against was a credit for him.  Keep fresh legs in their so you don't break down like that in one quarter.
11: I think they were trying to hype basketball season with numbers like that on the final score.
12: UCLA must only practice on weeks they play ranked opponents.
13: Can't win'em all... it's like plans for war you lay them and stat how it should go, but one the first hit happens all those possible outcomes go away.
I am not from the midwest.  are there any big ten teams besides Michigan and Ohio State?  The winner of one game wins the big ten every year. are there any big 12 teams besides Texas and Oklahoma?
To Chad in VA:

The LSU Tigers are actually playing number 17 Alabama this weekend and while no Oregon they are infinitely better than Arizona State. I seriously doubt that the winner leapfrogs LSU barring a loss by the Tigers.
Other teams in the Big 12? Missouri and Kansas anyone? Check out the BCS rankings...
That's rather dead & buries isn't it?
how does ohio state get to be number one with the teams they play? strengh of schedule??usc having a bad year or the other teams in the pac ten just better?i can remember the biggest game of the year for the pac ten was playing notre dame is this still true?how many teams in the top have to get up every week and play tough opponents?and why if a team has a great defence (lsu)is the refs not calling holding on the teams they play?
